Honestly, this is a new thing that I really wanna do this year. And I've done it for a long time since I was a high school, unfortunately, I can't keep it up every day. And a few days ago when I was scroll to my timeline suddenly I found a post which talks about this. So, I decided to do more research about this because at the same times I need it to. Also, I wanna keep it on this blog because I'm not the type who love to make note ✌
According to the University of Rochester Medical Center, Journaling boosts our wellbeing in several ways, including managing anxiety, reducing stress, and coping with depression. The simple act of writing down our thoughts throughout the day, as well as monitors our day-to-day mental health over long periods.
However, there's more than one way to use journaling to maintain our mental health, and since it's still new year vibe, there's no reason for starting the journaling. Well, it's quite hard for the first time because I still feel that way too, but sometimes it's working to reduce our negative thoughts. Besides, I feel this is a perfect way of representing what we feel than talk it with friends. Here we go
1. Gratitude Journal
This journal is for the things you're grateful for. This journaling technique is very good for us when having a bad day, or stressed.
Gratitude journal verdict:
- This journal is not hard to do but is not something easy too
- If our daily activities are monotonous, the journal can become boring
2. Reflective Journal
This journal is to reflect on everyday things that we may nor be aware of, which can help self-exploration, anxiety, dreams, etc.
The reason to write this journal:
- To understand the things that have happened
- To reflect on why it happened this way
- To align future actions with your values and lessons learned from your past experiences
- To share and get your thoughts and ideas out of your head
3. Worst Case Scenario
This journal is very suitable for a person who always has got negative thoughts over his/her mind. In this journal you can write down all of the worst-case, that might be happening in the future. So you don't have got the "what if.." over your head anymore
4. Vision Boards
It's kinda different from the usual journal techniques, the vision board aims to map what we wanna do/achieve in the future. The contents can be quotes, photos, anything that describes our vision. 🎇
5. Visual Journaling
A creative way to express and record life's experiences, feelings, emotional reactions, or our inner world - visually and verbally. This journaling technique is kinda similar to scrapbook so you can decorate it as you want.
6. Expressive Writing
This journaling technique focuses on describing the feeling/emotions that are experienced. The goal is that we can be better able to express emotions in written form because sometimes our emotions are stuck / can't be conveyed adaptively.
7. The Unsent Letter
A powerful friend that will assist you in putting your emotions into words that come directly from the heart.
8. Morning Pages
Streams of consciousness writing done first thing in the morning, in three pages. When writing a morning page, you are not doing the actual writing, you are just jotting down the first thoughts that come into your mind in the morning, no matter how senseless they sound.
The reason it has to be three pages is that it would be easier if it was shorter. The first page has you seamlessly throwing out all the words that fly into your mind and all the feelings you woke up with, so you do not have to try. When those are gone, you have to consciously think and clear out the residue feelings and thoughts from your mind, so you attend to your day with a clear mind.
